Terms of Service
Effective Date: October 2024
1. Acceptance of Terms
By installing or using the Rudder VPN browser extension (the "Extension") or by visiting ruddervpn.com (the "Website"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Extension or the Website. Rudder VPN reserves the right to update these terms at any time.
2. Description of Service
Rudder VPN is a free, lightweight, browser-based VPN that routes your browser traffic through secure servers in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom to help protect your privacy and keep your real location hidden. The Extension also includes access to a private search experience at search.ruddervpn.com. The Extension is distributed through the Mozilla Firefox Add-ons Marketplace (AMO), and the Website supports the Extension.
3. Permitted Use
The Extension is provided for your personal, non-commercial use. You agree not to reverse engineer, decompile, modify, or redistribute the Extension, and not to use it for any unlawful purpose or in any way that interferes with its normal operation or the rights of others.
4. Intellectual Property
Rudder VPN retains all rights, title, and interest in and to the Extension and Website, including the Rudder VPN name, logo, and associated assets, which are proprietary. Nothing in these terms transfers any ownership rights to you.
5. Privacy
Your use of the Extension and Website is subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle information. Rudder VPN does not require an account and does not log your browsing activity.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Extension and Website are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the Extension will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, and we do not warrant its fitness for any particular purpose. A browser-based VPN provides a layer of privacy but cannot guarantee complete anonymity or security.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rudder VPN shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Extension or Website. Because the Extension is provided free of charge, our total liability shall not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for the Extension (if any) or ten US dollars (USD $10). Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain liability, so some of the above may not apply to you.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Rudder VPN from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Extension or Website, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any applicable law.
9. Third-Party Services
The Extension is distributed through Mozilla Add-ons (AMO) and may interact with third-party networks and services as part of routing your traffic. Rudder VPN is not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of any third-party service. Your use of third-party services is subject to their own terms.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate access to the Extension or Website at any time, with or without notice. You may stop using the Extension at any time by uninstalling it from your browser.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California. Nothing in this section waives any mandatory rights you may have under the GDPR or other applicable data-protection laws in your jurisdiction.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms at any time. Material changes will be noted with an updated effective date on this page. Your continued use of the Extension or Website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
